I was assigned to the short-lived 6th Infantry Division during the Sixties. I was an FO with the 6/1st Artillery at Fort Campbell. In addition to the regular artillery unit training during that time, we also underwent civil disturbance training. The unit deactivated while I was away at CBR school at Fort McClellan, AL, and I returned to an independent, combined arms, brigade-sized unit that was cobbled together from the 6th. I cannot remember what it was called at that point. We continued to train and undergo testing until I left in November for reassignment to a battalion of the 7th Division Artillery in Korea. My time with the 6th was short, but I look back at it as an enjoyable and rewarding assignment. It was my first unit experience as a newly commissioned Redleg.
