I am interested in talking with anyone who may remember by grandfather William “Bill” Leo Severn from G Company, 63rd Infantry Regiment.
Any help or information is greatly appreciated. My grandfather passed away before I was born so I never had the chance to talk with him about any of his wartime experiences, I am hoping that perhaps some comrades who remember serving with him might have some good stories to tell. Thanks for the help. -Jeremy
Jeremy,
My uncle T/Sgt Quinton Jackson was in the same company. He was KIA on 6 Apr 45 at Bayan Bayanan, Luzon, PI. I have a framed Co G roster which has your grandfather’s name on it.
I too would like to get in touch w/anyone who may have known my uncle Quinton. He had been a member of the 63d Regiment for 4 yours. I have letters from Quinton to my father and their mother, but there are no names of fellow unit members mentioned. I also have in my possession the letter written by the CO of Co G, Captain Frederick M McInnis which was written to my grandmother.

Jeremy,
My father, Capt. Paul Brown, (1918-2001) was with the 6th from Leonard Wood until his return via Ft Lewis, WA in Dec. 1945. He took the SS Monterey Hawaii and the Jean LaFitte to Milne Bay, landing in Maffin bay (Lone Tree Hill) June 1944, Sansapore and finally in Lingayan Gulf Feb 1945. The Army Green books are a good source of info. Gen Krueger wrote a memoire “From Down Under to Nippon”. Also read: “American Caesar’ by Wm Manchester, “MacArthure’s Jungle War” by Stephen Taafe. Their ranks are getting really thin, it may be hard to find anyone who knew your grandfather. Dad was MIA and also met macArthur but I could never get him to talk about it until the last year of his life.
I am planning on visiting Maffin/Wakde Is, Biak, and the Admiralties in the summer of 2014. If anyone knows about the area today, please let me know.
Richard Brown
Hi Gary,
I saw your note about the letter written by a Cpt Frederick M. McInnis. I checked my dad’s obituary and he was a member of the 63rd Infantry Regiment, 6th Division at that time. I do not know which company he was with, but I do know he was probably a captain at that time. It would be cool if you could scan the letter and post it or emailit, and I could verify his penmanship probably.
Thanks for posting.
Brenda
PS
I do know he was in the South Pacific theater as well.

My Grandfather Albert DeForest Guernsey was also a member of Company G of the 63rd Infantry Regiment in Luzon as well as in New Guinea. If anyone has his name on a roster or photograph, etc. it would be great to see it. I have his Army badges, medals, dog tags, etc. He was my best friend when I was a little girl. I spent every afternoon with him after school. I recall finding “funny money” in his dresser. Later I found out they were Dutch Guilders from his time in New Guinea. Thank you for your help. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge as well as the Bronze Star. He died in 1977, Pasadena Ca.
I have a copy of the 6th Infantry Divison GI Newspaper the “Cockatoo” Vol 2, N. 181 dated Friday July 13th 1945. My dad was in H Company and had sent the newspaper to my grandmother. It tells about the battle along highway 4 and the 28 mile drive pushing the Japs back and taking the city of Kiangan capturing a major supply Depoe. Short but interesting news.
If you can, I’ love to get a copy of that Cockatoo and post it in my FB Group page.

Al,
I reposted your request on FB. However, I would suggest entering your email address in order to get direct replies.
To Barbara Bossard,
My name is Gary Jackson. You can obtain my e-mail address from a message I setn above on August 2, 2014.
I have a Co G, 63d Infantry Regiment Roster while the 6th Division was located at Ft Leonard Wood, MO. The date on the roster is 1941. It is a color print suitable for framing. Howwever it is very tattered and worn.
Your grandfather, Albert D Guernsey is listed on this roster as a Private First Class. My Uncle, Quinton Jackson is listed as a Sergeant, but was a Technical Sergeant when killed in action on April 6, 1945.
I plan on getting the roster mounted. I hope you read this message, and see my e-mail address above. I look forward to hearing from you. You may also want to try and get in touch with Brenda McInnis Fraser (message dated April 7, 2013). Her Father, Capt Fredrick M McInnis was the Commanding Officer of Company G while the unit was in action in the Philipphine Islands. Capt McInnis retired as a Brigider General.
Again, I hope to hear from you.
Gary
Sorry for the long delay, I just read your message from 2015. If you still have the roster including my Grandfather please let
Hello Barbara,
Just checked the site. I am in the process of moving and the G Company, 63d Infantry roster is packed away and in storage. I will not get to it until early 2018.
I would venture to say the men who are on the roster and still alive can be counted on one hand.
Stay in touch. My email address is listed above. I will try to take the roster to a graphics shop, and see if it is possible to make you a copy.

Hi Gary still interested.
My uncle J.L. Smith, Company “G” 63rd Infantry was killed near Antipolo, Luzon, Phillipine Islands August 1945. My grandmother received a letter from Captain McInnis commanding the 63rd. His platoon leader was Lt. Lewis R. Chance. My uncle earned a Silver Star for bravery and several purple hearts while fighting in Luzon. His best friends were T/Sgt John D. Lagan from East Dorset St in Philadelphia (he wrote my grandmother letting her know the details of her son’s death, such a well written and heart felt message that I have in my possession). Thank you to Sgt. Lagan. Another friend of his was Roman Borgula from Hamtramck, Michigan. Any family members or descendants with photos please contact me. I have a photo of my uncle with someone in battle fatigues and I am working to get it restored.
Adrian,
Thank you for your comment. We will post it. Bear in mind that if there is anyone still alive who knew your uncle, it is likely that if they have not already passed on, they probably do not use a computer much any more. If someone recognizes him it will likely be because a child or grandchild knows something. But if you have pictures or stories to share we are certainly very interested in posting those. Thank you again.
