I’m researching my father’s service in New Guinea in 1944.
Captain Philip W. Sloan 0-1755181
US Army Medical Detachment
63rd Infantry
Prior to his heroism at the battle of Munoz, Luzon, Philippines, he was in the thick of the fighting in New Guinea. I’m hoping to find information on his service there and to confirm if he was involved in the battle of Lone Tree Hill.
My Wife’s great uncle Charles F Burris served with the 63rd Infantry Regiment. He died on July 7th 1944. He was with Company F, 63rd Infantry Regiment, 6th Division. From what I can determine he survived the battle of Lone Tree Hill but was killed while the Regiment was trying to take Hill 225, or Mount Saksin. That is all that I know of his death.
