I am sad to report that Virgil E. Hallberg, of the 80th Field Artillery of the 6th Infantry Division and a hero of the war recently passed away at the age of 99. I knew Virgil and had the honor to call him my friend. Virgil was a terrific example of the greatest that the greatest generation had to offer. He served his country during the greatest war in the history of the world. He accomplished much more during his life and was honored, respected and loved by many. We are all fortunate that he and men like him were here for us when we needed them. I know that I will miss him.

Virgil was a fine gentleman, and I am very glad to have known him. He and Joann were faithful to the 6th, and fun to be around.
